I was born in Kansas and grew up in Iuka, Kansas. I obtained my Bachelors
in Nursing from Wichita State University. I moved to Ft. Worth Texas with
my Air Force husband and worked as a nurse in adult critical care in Fort
I obtained my Masters Degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Critical Care
from the University of Texas-Arlington. I received a Post Master's Certificate
as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Woman's University in Denton,
I have worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Halstead and Newton
Kansas. Most recently I have worked as a nurse practitioner in Wichita with a busy cardiology practice.
I am a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Cardiology. I am board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
My many years as a nurse caring for adults guides my work as a nurse practitioner. My focus in to assist each of my patients to be as healthy as possible. I am committed to explaining the medical condition(s) to each person and to working with them to arrive at a treatment plan that is acceptable to both of us.
My interest in health and the understanding of the impact it has on more
than just the patient, began early in my life, when at the age of 9, my dad
got diagnosed with a rare tick born illness. My life after that diagnosis
changed forever as he moved from research subject with lines, tubes, and
surgeries to permanently disabled/early retirement.
The effects his disability forced into his life also forever changed mine.
From this I acquired deeper understanding on exactly how healthcare
provider's decisions can resonant far past that patients life.
I knew then that a patient is not just a patient or just a number or just a salary. As a patient they are a complete person and individually affect the world and play an important part in our life and world.
I took my passion and gave it direction when I became an adult by getting my RN license and then attending my graduate program at the University of Kansas, School of Nursing. I graduated with my MSN, APRN in Family Practice. I am nationally certified by the AANP. I also have additional certifications in ACLS, PALS, BLS, CPSI, and am a certified medical examiner approved to do DOT physicals. I have also taught for over 5 years in nursing and allied health and incorporate that in to each patient encounter.
Whether I am the teacher, the student, or the lesson I know that experience is not just one dimensional but culturally holistic (ever growing and morphing throughout time) and so is personal health and wellness.
My particular passions are for helping marginalized populations and those that are frustrated with no answer to what they are experiencing.
I take pride in the fact that I've been told that I am the primary care provider that people that hate or don't go to a doctor/hospital actually chose and brag about loving to go come to me. I credit this to my humor, passion to serve, and being able to infect my patients with that same passion in guiding them to greater health autonomy and wellness.
Dr. Kyi first met me professionally in a supervisory role over a travel position that initially brought me to Dodge City in the summer of 2016 through Occupational Health at Western Plains Medical Center. He appreciated my attention to detail and humility in my service to my patients and wanted that passion to merge with the humble service and passionate intelligence that he and his wife had carved into their clinic and life's work.
I am very honored by the trust he has in me by allowing me to become a part of his clinic.
By keeping focused on walking in humor, love and kindness to all people and always keeping alive my passion to learn and grow, I know that my patients will receive excellent care outcomes, improved quality of life, improved ownership for their own wellness and very possibly infect them with my understanding of each of our importance to the world and desire to enjoy life to its fullest.
Why not create a tidal wave of lasting change that makes life more fun, more enjoyable, more passionately lived and fully experienced for everyone around us? I have 3 daughters that I am also very proud of and try and instill that same respect for the value and price of each and every person into their growth as children. My family keeps me happy, allows me to grow, and supports all that I do and believe in.
