IPA elects new president
The Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) has elected Prafull D Sheth as its president for the period 2002-2004. Sheth has been elected for the second time. He served as the IPA president in the year 1998-2000.
Sheth is an observer for Developing Countries, Community Pharmacy Section in FIP and is working on the project of implementing the role of pharmacists in the fight against HIV/ AIDS in India. He is also the professional secretary for SEARPharm Forum, an FIP-WHO Forum of National Pharmaceutical Association of south-east Asian Countries.
The other office bearers include Subodh Priolkar, Dr M Venkateswarulu, Dr B Suresh, D A Gundu Rao and Dr B G Nagavi as the vice-presidents. S D Joag will be the Gen Secretary and R S Durve will be the treasurer. K S Desai will be the editor Pharma Times and Dr Rao VSV Vadlamudi will be the editor of IJPS.
PhD degree awarded
Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore has awarded Sanjay J Surana the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmacy) for his thesis entitled ‘‘Formulation and standardization of Some Herbal Cosmetics.’’
Surana carried out his research work at Dept of Pharmacy, SGSITS, Indore, Dept of Pharmacy, Sagar and R C Patel College of Pharmacy, Shirpur.
He has also published two papers recently on the topic at FIP, Singapore.
Currently working as the principal at R C Patel College of Pharmacy, Shirpur, Surana is also a member of number of organisations such as IPA, APTI, IPGA.
The Mysore University has declared the PhD award to V Madhavan for his thesis ‘‘Comparative Pharmacognostical, Phytochemical and Biological Activity Studies on some selected Medicinal Plants/ Drugs used in Ayurveda’’. He has completed his thesis under the guidance of Dr S N Yoganarasimhan, head, Medicinal Plants Division, Regional Research Center (Ayurveda), Bangalore.
