European Union partners the 4th Nutraceutical Summit
The 4th Nutraceutical Summit 2008 , India’s leading event of the nutraceutical industry is scheduled from February 21-23, 2008, at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai. The event has emerged as the biggest congregation of the nutraceutical fraternity in India over the last three years. The summit is organised by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) , Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) and MM Activ Sci-Tech Communication and supported by the leading Industry associations of India like HADSA, OPPI, IDMA, ADMA and ABLE
The European Union will participate at the 4th Nutraceutical Summit with a strong delegation of food, agriculture and biotechnology experts from across Europe. The summit is scheduled from February 21-23, 2008, at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai
The delegation from the European Commission who will discuss the initiatives and co-operation of the European Union and India will include Antonio Di Giulio, Head of Unit “Food, health and well being” (RTD-E3), Directorate of Biotechnologies, Food and Agriculture, DG Research (ADG), Dirk Pottier, Scientific Officer, “Food, health and well being” (RTD-E3), Directorate of Biotechnologies, Food and Agriculture, DG Research (DP), Elisabetta Balzi, international co-operation officer, “Horizontal and co-ordination aspects” (RTD-E1), Directorate of Biotechnologies, Food and Agriculture, DG Research (EB), Indraneel Ghose, EC Delegation to India, Nepal and Buthan (IG), Andrew Sors, Minister Counsellor, EC Delegation to India, Nepal and Buthan, Danièle Smadja, Head of EC Delegation to India, Nepal and Buthan.
Technical speakers invited from across Europe will address the gathering in focus areas such as probiotics and nutrition genomics. Wim Saris (NL) will speak on ‘Diets, obesity and genes—a pan-European programme targeting the obesity problem from a dietary perspective, seeking new insights and new routes to prevention (Diogenes). Similarly Tobias Hartmann (DE) will cover ‘Diets and ageing—a new FP7 project aiming at developing lipid based diets for preventing or slowing down the development of Alzheimer disease (Lipididiet)’.
The delegation is partnering the 4th Nutraceutical Summit to interact with the R&D organisations, pharmaceutical companies, food processing companies, functional food and dietary supplement manufacturers, regulatory authorities, policy makers, scientists, nutritionists, dieticians, doctors, venture capitalists, investors and today’s health conscious consumers.
Other highlights of the summit include and international conference on “Key trends in nutraceuticals and food—novel ingredients, new applications and business opportunities”. The sessions will offer insights into the key concerns of the regulatory mechanism for the industry, intellectual property rights and licensing issues. It will also throw light on new food ingredients, developments in functional foods and dietary supplements, prebiotics and probiotics, effective application of traditional knowledge.
New Fundas Health and Food Expo will be a dynamic marketplace focusing on both B2B and B2C interaction with members of the business fraternity, nutritionists, dieticians, doctors as well as the health conscious and upwardly mobile consumers of Mumbai.
The summit will also provide a unique opportunity for young researchers to share their innovative ideas and research through the Interactive Poster Session, while the Doctors and Nutritionists Forum is a panel discussion between leading doctors in the areas of lifestyle ailments, the members of the Indian Dietetics Association and the nutraceutical industry.
